For someone who I know is nervous, I will talk positively to them before they compete and do what I can to steer them away from mentioning the negative. Then when they exit the ring, I'll compliment something and ask them what they *liked* about their performance. And, though I recognize what I need to work on and welcome help, I try to steer others away from lamenting what went wrong for me, too. If nothing else, it makes for much more enjoyable ringside conversations!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3298174237049032553.post-76136766896542614392014-06-05T00:18:44.048-05:002014-06-05T00:18:44.048-05:00I think it's in our nature to point out what w...I think it's in our nature to point out what went wrong when someone compliments us. I found that more than Q'ing, what satisfies me most is feeling really connected with my dogs. When they look into my eyes with that total focus and trust that only dogs seem able to freely offer, and follow me around the course, and do their best to take my directions, I'm already a winner! <br />Michele Fryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14054438085591770016noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3298174237049032553.post-23483652432380006632013-06-08T19:01:15.120-05:002013-06-08T19:01:15.120-05:00Could we go to a pause box, or simple 6" rais...Could we go to a pause box, or simple 6" raised platform for all dogs? If you don't trial A LOT, you aren't going to get that 500 points. I've got a fast dog, but don't Q in every run, so that coupled with trialing only once or twice a month, I'll be hard pressed to get those points. Anja loves it - but not every dog would. One thing I've noticed in the classes I take with the USDAA influence, is that there is a good balance between tight sequences and challenges, and wide open running, letting the dog open up and have fun, too.
